On September 25, 2015, the Sustainable Development 2030 Agenda was agreed and adopted by the United Nation. This agenda consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets. It expressed a global call for urgent actions to save the planet and its people. The private sector is one of the key stakeholders due to its essential role and duty as a development actor in the implementation of SDGs. This sector must shoulder a fundamental responsibility to accelerate the implementation process. The current article reviews important aspects about the role of the private sector towards proper implementation of the SDGs. The corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the environmental initiatives are required to support the implementation of SDGs. Moreover, there is a dire need for a reliable set of measurable indicators to support the private sector in measuring the implementation progress. The current work is an effort to contribute in covering a range of potential gaps in the current literature that needs to be addressed on priority basis.
