Ensure reliable and sustainable food sourcing.

Purpose

The policy aims to provide guidelines to ensure sustainable sourcing of food provided by cafeteria, restaurants. The food should comply with the national legislation regarding halal, sustainable fishing and farming.

Scope/Application

The scope of this policy includes fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and poultry, excluding packed food that is provided by the vending machines. This policy should be made available to all vendors contracted with the university.

Policy Statement and Principles

  1. The meat and poultry provided on campus must be from a halal source.
  2. The fish provided must have purchased from the local legal vendors registered at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, and following the legislation related to the fishing practices at the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  3. Fruit and vegetables are provided by registered suppliers or from the local registered farms in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  4. The cafeteria and restaurants at the university should ensure that the composition of the food served is indicated on the menu.
