This policy sets to reduce, if not eliminate, the pay gap between male and female for the same position.

Purpose

The University of Bahrain is subject to the laws, executives and policies of the Civil Service Bureau (CSB). All staff, academics and non-academics, earn their income, wages, overtime and all other remunerations according to the CSB rules and regulations. The CSB, and in effect the University of Bahrain, adheres to rules and regulations that ensures equity and fairness for all government employees.

Definitions

Pay-Scale: refers to the table which maps each University job position with respect to grade and rank.

Scope/Application

Policy on Pay-Scale Equity applies to all University employees: Whether the academic faculty, administrative staff; whether they are full-time or part-time.

Policy Statement and Principles

  1. The University of Bahrain is keen to provide equal pay to both genders in an effort to be fair and just to all employees.
  2.  The Policy on Pay-Scale Equity is supported by the following principles:
    • All positions available were and can be occupied by women and men. Legally, it is not possible to pay a person higher or lower than the pay and grade associated with that position.
    • No amount of remuneration can be processed without going through the centralized CSB database system to ensure tampering with the wages.
    • Women in the University had, have and can occupy all positions, including the highest University positions: presidency, vice-presidency, deanship, and directorship.
    • If for any reason there is a pay gap for the same rank and step of a job position, then the employee can raise a formal Grievance Complaint to rectify the discrepancy.
