The university has partnered with many organizations over the years in numerous areas related to teaching, learning, research, career development and sustainability. Through these national and international partnerships, the university was able to contribute to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This is a list of some of the on-going university partnerships that are tackling the SDGs, some of which have started in 2017.

2. European Nuclear Research Centre (CERN) – Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment 2019 Partnership to take part in CMS experiments conducted on accelerators. A University team, from the College of Information Technology, to work on improving the current program to select the important data resulting from the collision of protons and a second team from the Department of Mechanical Engineering to design and build a special motorized jig for platform insertion for the maintenance of the CMS. 17
3. United Nations Development Program (UNDP) 2018 Agreement to enhance joint and collaborative activities for gender equality and promoting innovation with common target of raising awareness and promoting the achievement of SDGs in Bahrain, including the following:

·  Supports the university in the validation and joint launching of the 12 GEPMI gender empowerment modules.

·  Jointly develop and help deliver courses on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs, to be offered at the Graduate level at the university and at an introductory level for foundation level students.

·  Provide support in offering training programs for female students in addition to providing support for the establishment of new computer labs for “Forsati for Her” program that trained 3000 female students in ICT Skills.

·  Establish an Innovation Lab to foster Innovation and provide entrepreneurship support services, from design to implementation.

4. Liverpool John Moores University 2018 This agreement aims to offer a joint MSc program in Big Data Science and Analytics. This program is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain and among the first among the GCC. 17
5. Shanghai University 2017 Collaboration in research activities addressing clean and alternative energy solutions. Two conferences were held to discuss research from both universities in the efficient use of materials in energy production, removal of toxins, hydrogen fuel cells, free CO2 energy generation and organic batteries. Sharing of such experiences from scientist from both universities created a starting point for innovation and stronger research collaboration. 17, 4
6. Aston University 2017 Three-years agreement for a joint study on linking desalination plants using reverse osmosis technology via renewable energy systems. Joint supervision of PhD in Engineering program and organizing a number of activities and events in elated areas. 17, 6
7. Loughborough University 2017 Three-years research collaboration to establish a permanent Research Centre for Sustainable Energy and Water at the University of Bahrain, strongly linked to the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST) at Loughborough University and to the Bahrain Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU). 8. University of Oxford 2017 Four-years partnership agreement to conduct research in the field of water distillation via osmosis technology. The agreement allows researchers from the University of Bahrain to benefit from the expertise of the University of Oxford in this field. 23. ISACA Bahrain Chapter 2019 Partnership to provide female students with an opportunity to obtain professional certificates in IT field. This initiative contributes to the Human Capital Development of the Kingdom of Bahrain and especially women in areas where they are underrepresented. 24. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 2019 Partnership to provides the university students with training, scholarships, and resources. This collaboration benefits students from the Colleges of Engineering and Information Technology through attending the events and seminars organized by IEEE branch in Bahrain. In addition, the branch has also organized Programming Competitions for the university students addressing pressing issues. 17

27. National Geographic 2017 The university in partnership with National Geographic have launched a Learning Center at the University of Bahrain. The Centre has been established to provide support and assistance to all students of the University of Bahrain to improve their academic performance in English language skills, including speaking and listening skills, as well as assistance in research and written projects in various disciplines. The center has nearly 7,000 books in addition to video, audio and multimedia equipment.

41. iGA 2019 The University collaborates with iGA on many research projects that assess the satisfaction of e-government services provided to Bahrain’s residents. The university also contributes to iGA’s excellence awards through faculty members who serve as judges in the award. 49. Bahrain Credit 2019 The university and Bahrain Credit sign an MOU to support students training in media and communication through the university’s media center. Bahrain credit as also donated two carts that the university will utilize in the transportation of students with special needs around the campus. 4

Ministry of Transportation & Telecommunications 2019 MOU between the university and the ministry through the Civil Aviation Affairs to establish collaboration in the field of meteorology transportation and communications including offering an MSc program and a Minor in Weather Forecasts which provides candidates with the proper training on the World Meteorological Organization standards. The two parties also collaborate in scientific research and offer training for the employees of both parties. Moreover, the agreement includes linking the meteorological station of the two parties and work to develop a mechanism for exchanging information between the two stations. 17
51. World Health Organization (WHO) 2019 The nursing department works closely with its partners to collaborate on various projects and initiatives and to implement sustainable development. The nursing department at the College of Health and Sports Sciences was redesignated as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre (CC) for Nursing Development (WHOCC) in August 1990. The designation is subjected to renewal every four years. Th Nursing Department received its redesignation which is valid to September 2022.

The Collaborating Centre was the first in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) and remained the only Center in the Arab Gulf region. The centre contributes to the WHO’s sustainable and strategic goals and objectives in supporting and enriching the nursing and midwifery education and healthcare service in the country and the region.

In 2019, the center contributed to delivering several activities targeting the public midwifery workforce with the objective of upskilling the midwifery workforce in the region in collaboration with WHO and support WHO in scaling up the capacities of primary care midwives. To be more specific, this activity aimed to enhance midwives’ practices in primary health care settings (antenatal settings) consistent with the WHO actions to achieve the SDGs and universal health coverage.

2019 As part of Nursing department recognition as a WHOCC, the department also build a partnership with other networks to extend collaborative work with other nursing schools. The nursing department at CHSS is an active member at the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers for Nursing and Midwifery in John Hopkins University School of Nursing. Among its multiple efforts, the centre, represented by the nursing department, participated in the global maternity network as an academic leader in nursing and midwifery education in the region, with the mission of promoting the health for all population through the collaboration, communication, and cohesion of the nursing and midwifery global community and its partners in different regions of the world. 3 & 4 & 17
53. Scientific Society for Arab Nursing Faculties 2019 Nursing Department at the College of Health and Sport Sciences is a member of Scientific Societies for Arab Nursing Faculties represented by Dr Leena Khonji Head of the Department. The nursing department collaborates with the SSANF to raise the level of education in the field of specialty and to promote scientific research and joint research and exchange of results.

The SSANF has now 82 members from various colleges of nursing in the Arab countries and Societies and comprises three committees: a committee of scientific research and development, Education Student Training committee and Accreditation and Quality Assurance Committee also offers annual awards to institutions and individuals for outstanding work and the exchange of students and the exchange of experiences between nursing faculties.

54. American Heart Association (AHA) June 2018 -2021 Sustaining its role toward the local community health and wellbeing, the Nursing Department at College of Health and Sport Sciences obtained the renewal of certification as an International Training Center (ITC) by the American Heart Association (AHA) for three more years starting from June 2018. The non-profit ITC was the first established and certified in the Kingdom and still provides its services to university students and faculty as well as all healthcare workers and members of the community. As part of its commitment to the community, the centre prepares students at exit level with needed certification free of cost and trains instructors for basic (BLS) and advanced life support certification (ACLS). The centre is not limited to the health sector; it also plans training workshop and certifies members of the community and workers in the industrial sector. As such, the centre, which is headed by Ms Amina Matooq, is considered a non-profit center prepares students and health care workers to achieve BLS, ACLS licenses.

From July 2019 until June 2020, the center qualified 5 BLS instructors. Moreover, 144 students attended the Heartsaver FA, CPR, AED, and 416 students were trained as BLS Healthcare providers. Finally, 50 students received became ACLS providers, while 28 successfully became PALS Providers.

55. University Illinois Chicago 2018 Nursing Department at College of Health and Sport Sciences had partnerships with University Illinois Chicago in 2018, an international Nurse Consultant from University of Illinois Chicago visited the college and contributed to curriculum review and Development of Master Program.

Continuing its efforts in developing the nursing education sector in the Kingdom, the nursing department had worked to establish the program of master’s in nursing sciences in a partnership with the University of Illinois, Chicago in 2018. The representative nursing consultant from Illinois participated in curriculum and content review activities along with members of the nursing department.

56. Bahrain Nursing Society (BNS) 2019 In the first quarter of 2019, the president of the University of Bahrain met the reconstituted Bahrain Nursing Society and discussed different means of potential collaboration into other aspects of nursing research and education. In the same context, the university works towards the support of professional societies; the nursing department at CHSS engaged with Bahrain Nursing Society initiatives and collaborated with the society’s activity at international level, where recently two nursing students have been nominated to represent the Bahraini Nursing students in the International Council of Nurses (ICN). 3,4,17
57. Ministry of Health Since 2015 – Annually renewed Throughout its efforts to sustain a constant level of education, UoB has signed a recurring agreement with the Ministry of Health (MOH) since 2015. The agreement permits access to university students and faculty to all learning and training resources available at the MOH healthcare facilities, including access to clinical areas and available equipment. Such permission is essential to maintain a high level of clinical training to the different health professions programs offered at the CHSS. In return, the UoB grants access to its medical library and teaching resources for the MOH nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers. 3,4,17

King Hamad University Hospital Since 2018 – Annually renewed The university establish another fruitful collaboration with the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) that resulted in signing a training agreement in the year 2018.
