Purpose
The water at the University of Bahrain is supplied through the national water network, which is managed by the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA). The water in Bahrain is provided through an energy-extensive process, either using thermal or membrane-based seawater desalination technologies. The water is used mainly for sanitary purposes, whereas drinking water is provided through distributed water coolers throughout the university. On the other hand, treated water is used for irrigation. The water run-off and rainwater (limited) is collected through channels. The purpose of this policy is to provide a guideline to provide innovative solutions to manage water at the university.

The scope of this policy covers the following:
- Conserve and restore Bahrain natural water resources
- Increase awareness toward the water management
- Provide Innovative solution for water security in Bahrain and the region.
Policy Statement and Principles
- The University is committed to the implementation of the following:
- Reducing water consumption through water-efficient techniques and practices.
- Support innovative research in water conservation.
- Continuous monitoring of water consumption to help identify areas of potential savings.
- Perform effective and regular maintenance to the water network at the university.
- Ensure that all staff and students Comply with best practice in water consumption.
- Develop awareness programs for the community.
- Implement where possible, low energy and passible design within all new build and major refurbishment projects.
- The Policy, accountability and evaluation
- The University shall develop indicators and measures of success in the implementation of this policy.
- A committee formed by the president shall provide an annual report to the university council on the process toward the established indicators and measure of the Water Management Policy.
