This policy focuses on allowing women to enrol as students, hiring as staff, and to encourage their participation in University activities.

Purpose

The University views women as valuable contributors to the University’s reputation and the national economy. By allowing and encouraging women to study, participate, and gain their skills, everyone can benefit.

Definitions

Enrolment: refers to the formal registration of individuals to be a recognized student of the University of Bahrain.

Participation: refers to taking part in University activities including (and not exclusive to) classes, labs, seminars, researches, events, forums, etc.

Scope/Application

Policy towards Women’s Enrolment and Participation applies to all females, whether they are prospective students, alumni, academics, administrators, students, visitors, researchers, etc.

Policy Statement and Principles

  1. The University of Bahrain sees itself as a driving force to advocate women’s career advancements. The University takes it upon itself to improve the prospects of women through its study program, research, seminars and events.
  2. The Policy towards Women’s Enrolment and Participation is supported by the following principles:
    • The University of Bahrain does not discriminate based on gender regarding the admission of female students. This is reflected in the higher ratio of female to male students enrolled in the University.
    • The University actively participates and collaborates in women’s empowerment events such as women in information, technology, medicine, finance, law, and entrepreneurship.
    • Women can occupy leadership positions such as presidency, vice-presidency, deanship, directorship and heads of departments.
    • The University annually celebrates Women’s Day in December to celebrate the achievements and contribution of women in the University.
