Sustaining its role toward the local community health and wellbeing, the Nursing Department at College of Health and Sport Sciences obtained the renewal of certification as an International Training Center (ITC) by the American Heart Association (AHA) for three more years starting from June 2018. The non-profit ITC was the first established and certified in the Kingdom and still provides its services to university students and faculty as well as all healthcare workers and members of the community. As part of its commitment to the community, the centre prepares students at exit level with needed certification free of cost and trains instructors for basic (BLS) and advanced life support certification (ACLS). The centre is not limited to the health sector; it also plans training workshop and certifies members of the community and workers in the industrial sector. As such, the centre, which is headed by Ms Amina Matooq, is considered a non-profit center prepares students and health care workers to achieve BLS, ACLS licenses.
From July 2019 until June 2020, the center qualified 5 BLS instructors. Moreover, 144 students attended the Heartsaver FA, CPR, AED, and 416 students were trained as BLS Healthcare providers. Finally, 50 students received became ACLS providers, while 28 successfully became PALS Providers.
