On 26th March 2019, the English Language Centre launched iDEA, Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award, as part of the “professional readiness” component of the Foundation Programme. The iDEA website is an initiative of HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, for the development of digital skills that are necessary for today’s world. 37 students signed up for the award and were required to work on online challenges independently with the help of a number of ELC teachers. The online badges introduced students to skills such as cyber security, coding, and graphic design. The students were able to complete all Bronze badges and were presented with their iDEA Bronze Certificates by HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, during an award ceremony which took place on 26th March 2019. The esteemed audience comprised of His Excellency the Minister of Education, His Excellency Prof. Riyadh Yousif Hamzah, Director of the English Language Centre, UoB Deans, faculty members, students and families of the honorees.
On 26th December 2019, the ELC continued to provide students with digital enterprise and employability skills through this initiative. Around 157 students signed up and completed the Bronze badge.
