Manama, Nov. 30, 2019 (BNA): A tribute was paid to Bahraini women in recognition to their achievements and dedication in serving the nation and building its bright future.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks and deep appreciation to every Bahraini woman who spares not efforts to serve her country, community and family”, said Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW),
She made the statement on the eve of the annual Bahraini Women’s Day, which falls on the 1st of December. The 2019 edition is being held under the theme “Bahraini women in the fields of higher education and future sciences”.
She stressed the importance of this national occasion, which was launched by His Majesty the King 11 years ago, thus becoming an official celebration among other national days.
The annual anniversary is being celebrated in tribute to Bahraini women in all walks of life – as mothers, educators, partners in national development and achievers in all productive sectors, dedicated more than ever to serving the nation and contributing to its progress and prosperity.
She commended all state institutions for activating programmes in the field of higher education and future sciences, praising women’s academic achievements which entitled them to hold leading positions, obtain high degrees and gain membership in international centres.
She lauded Bahraini women’s growing interest in the fields of future sciences and contribution to supporting Bahrain’s digital transformation and knowledge-based economy.
HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa delegated SCW Deputy President Dr. Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al-Khalifa to attend the celebration marking the annual Bahraini Women’s Day.
Themed “Bahrain women in the fields of higher education and future sciences”, the celebratory ceremony was held at the University of Bahrain (UoB) Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa’s Hall, Sakhir Campus.
UoB President Dr. Riyadh Hamza addressed the ceremony, stressed the university’s honour to host the ceremony, under the patronage of HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
He stressed the importance of this year’s theme “Higher Education and Future Sciences”, which, he said supports the UoB 2016-2021 Development Plan, aimed at promoting future sciences.
He stressed the dedicated efforts exerted by Bahrain’s largest public university, along with its national and international partners, to turn the Kingdom into a pioneering beacon of future sciences.
“Future science has become the focus of global attention, the field of competition, and the sign of development and progress”, he said.
He underlined Bahraini women’s strides, accounting for 41.5% of the overall academic staff at the University of Bahrain. The rate of females make up around 65% of the overall number of UoB students.
Dr. Hamza stress the pivotal role of the university as as a purveyor of qualified human resources and launchpad for Bahraini women to embrace excellence, acquire a wealth of knowledge in pursuing their careers as scientists, innovators or pioneers honouring Bahrain worldwide.
SCW Deputy President Dr. Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al-Khalifa then honoured outstanding academic pioneers, holders of high degrees and assuming leading positions.
A short documentary entitled “Bahraini Women and Education” was screened during the ceremony, which featured also a brief presentation shedding light on this year’s Bahraini Women’s Day.
