The College of Health Sciences at the University of Bahrain recently participated in a meeting entitled “Check and Let Us know” which was organized in coordination with Sadad’s Cultural and Sports Youth Center. A lecture entitled “Health awareness of women and its impact on family and community health” was given at the Department of Nursing at the College of Health Sciences by Samira Isa Hussein. She talked about the importance of spreading health awareness, and she mentioned in this context that “The need to spread and instill the concept of health awareness among individual women, family members, and the society has emerged with the increasing and worsening of health problems, and the spread of diseases, especially chronic ones, because of its important and prominent impact in creating a generation Enjoys the healthy knowledge through which the individual and society rise. She added that women are responsible for spreading and promoting health awareness, as the basic educational nucleus of the family, as it plays a fundamental role in the formation of healthy individuals, and through it the child’s personality is embodied in its physical, mental and psychological aspects, by instilling healthy behavior in individuals, and providing a healthy family life healthy, and planting Promoting practices for various healthy habits, providing specific means to educate the family, answering the questions of healthy family members, and building healthy food habits that are compatible with the natural growth of family members, and for women to fulfill this great role, they must take care of their condition Physical mental health. The head of the center, Hassan Aqeel, thanked the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Amal Akilah, for the cooperation with the center and the continuous endeavor of the college to serve the individual and society.

The college also organizes blood donation campaigns where UOB staff and student donate blood. The aim of the campaign is to encourage students to donate blood because of the health effects it has on people, and the humanitarian returns for patients in need of a drop of blood that might save their lives and restore hope for them, as well as provide a service to the community. Students of the University of Bahrain and its affiliates donated more than 65 blood bags to the Central Blood Bank in Salmaniya Complex. The campaign has received great response and humanitarian response to support patients in need of blood in particular patients with hemoglobinopathies (Sickle Cell Disease, Thalassemia) and cancer. More than 120 students, academics and administrators participated in the campaign.

 

   

UOB organizes a bicycle tour for its academic, administrative and student affiliates, with a number of cycling enthusiasts participating in it with the participation of Bahrain cycling team on 1st Feb 2019. This program came in the way to participate in improving health and wellbeing including sports and exercises and as a result to have a good health impact. The cycling event promotes health & wellbeing by focusing on the importance of cycling as a sport. The event was held on two types of roads. Participants from the University of Bahrain set out on two tracks, one on the main street, and the other on the heights, in a tour that spanned 15 kilometers. The event, which is being held for the first time at the University of Bahrain, aims to promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging staff and students to play sports, especially cycling, which is an active sport among Bahraini youth. The event coincided with a display of the latest Kia cars and a number of smart devices. The event was held in cooperation with the Merida team, and with the support of Bin Hindi, “Kia Cars”, Royal Bahrain Hospital and Post Company.

The university also organizes an annual sports day, held on 12th Feb 2019, to engage staff and students and the local community with social and sports activities, and to promote the importance of physical activity. The sports day is a great opportunity for the staff and students to interact outside the classrooms and improve the social aspect of the academic and learning journey at the University. Moreover, the event focus on the importance of wellbeing, connecting with others, and getting involved in physical activity. The event was held at Sakheer campus, where the sports facilities such as track and field, swimming pool and athletic machines are located. Hundreds of staff and students participated in the events which included sports activities and health checkups. The activities consisted of Ashtanga yoga, walking, sports events and medical tests. Students, academics and administrators participated in several games including: volleyball, football, agility, running, and balance challenges, and a 37-meter running race. All participants wore appropriate sports outfits and trainers in line with the University of Bahrain dress code regulations. This program came in the way to participate in improving health and wellbeing including to have a positive impact on health.
